The last few days we have been on Safari in the Masai Mara. It was so gorgeous and incredible!! The drive there and back was absolutely insane. Joseph, our driver does not seem to fear anything, so we spent most of the ride thinking that we truly may die. We actually had a near-death experience when we almost crashed head-on into a motorcycle. Joseph swerved, sending the back end of the van deeper into the ditch we had been straddling, and we were on 2 wheels, fishtailing around the road before we got straightened out. We told Joseph that we didn’t feel safe and that he should slow down. He just laughed and kept driving insanely fast.
Our campsite was beautiful! It is out in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but desert and sparse shrubs for miles around. The first afternoon there, we got a really close-up view of about 5 lions. The females were ripping apart a zebra while the male lay in the sun about 10 feet from our vehicle. It was absolutely amazing!!! We also saw elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, impala, buffalo, antelope, zebras and more. The landscape was phenomenal–so much more beautiful than what I pictured and none of my photographs do it justice.
